Fifty-two percent (52%) of all undergraduates in SC public higher education were enrolled in the SC Technical College System in Fall 2009.
Ninety-seven percent (97%) of all students enrolled at a SC technical college in Fall 2009 were residents of SC.
In Fall 2009, students enrolled in the technical colleges’ credit programs were:
- 41 percent minority
- 61 percent female
- 56 percent age 18-24
- 44 percent age 25 and older
Fifty-nine percent (59%) of SC residents attending one of the state’s public colleges or universities in Fall 2009 as undergraduates were enrolled at one of SC’s technical colleges.
In terms of undergraduate headcount enrollment, three of the state’s five largest public colleges and universities in Fall 2009 were technical colleges.

Nearly one-third of graduates (4,582) from SC’s technical colleges in 2008-2009 were in the Health Sciences, an area of critical workforce shortage for the state.
