The South Carolina State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education, the governing board for the nation’s premier two year technical/community college system, invites applications and nominations for the position of System President/Executive Director. The Executive Director serves as the System President of the sixteen college system with the System Office located in Columbia, South Carolina. The colleges offer curriculum programs leading to associate degrees, diplomas or certificates in the technical/occupational disciplines and the Associate in Arts/Associate in Science degrees which are transferable to baccalaureate degrees. The State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education, under the leadership of the System President/Executive Director, plays a major role in the State’s business/industry relations and economic development programs. The Economic Development Division’s readySC™ program provides customized occupational training for new and expanding businesses and industries. Additionally, through its nationally recognized affiliate program, Apprenticeship Carolina™, the System enhances workforce development and the employability of South Carolinians.

 

CRITERIA

  • Master’s degree required; earned doctorate is preferred.
  • Ten years of combined progressively responsible experiences as a Community/Technical College President and/or senior level administrator in a postsecondary education environment.
  • Extensive experiences that demonstrate knowledge of, and success in technical/occupational education and training, as well as industrial and economic development programs.
  • Evidence of sensitivity to the educational and economic needs of a culturally diverse population.
  • Successful experiences demonstrating the ability to function effectively with boards and broad constituencies to include business, industry, civic leaders, service organizations, political entities, higher education institutions and leaders, state agencies and the general public.
  • Successful experiences in media and public relations to include effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Evidence of skill competencies in the areas of finance, budget development and staff management and administration.
