New President Announced for SC Technical College System
COLUMBIA (May 26, 2010) –The State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education announced yesterday that an offer has been extended to and accepted by Dr. Darrel Staat. Staat comes to the System most recently from Central Virginia Community College where he serves as president.

“We are extremely pleased that Dr. Darrel Staat has accepted the position as president of the SC Technical College System. The Board’s search committee was impressed by his varied resume, one that includes 33 years of successful administrative success in a variety of executive positions and 18 years as college president,” said Montez Martin, chair of the State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education.
Staat earned his doctorate of arts degree in English from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. Most recently, he served as president of the Central Virginia Community College since 1999. Prior to that, Staat served in the Maine Community College System as president of both York County Community College and Eastern Maine Community College.
Staat takes over the position on August 1, 2010. Until that time, Dr. Jim Hudgins has agreed to serve as interim president.
Hudgins currently serves as director of the Community College Leadership Alliance at the University of South Carolina. Prior to that, he served as president of the SC Technical College System.
