Short-term, no-cost training opportunities available to GED by 2023 students

If you earn your GED or high school diploma through a South Carolina adult education office between July 1, 2021, and June 30, 2024, you are eligible to receive funds to cover the full cost of tuition and fees at your local technical college.

Patient Care Technician – This healthcare program teaches you how to administer basic care to patients. PCTs interact directly with patients to provide assistance with daily tasks.


Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – Learn the basic knowledge and skills necessary to stabilize and safely transport patients ranging from non-emergency and routine medical transports to life-threatening emergencies.


Medical Billing and Coding – With this program, you will gain the skills necessary to translate medical reports into codes used within the healthcare industry and to process claims with health insurance companies on behalf of healthcare providers.


Nursing Assistant – This certificate is designed to provide skills in nursing assisting to obtain entry-level employment in hospitals, clinics, and other skilled health care settings.


Massage Therapy Certificate – This program prepares students for entry-level positions as professional massage therapists.


Medical Assisting – Medical assistants are multi-skilled allied health professionals who work under the supervision of physicians and perform a broad range of administrative and clinical duties.


Pharmacy Technician – This program provides didactic, laboratory, and experiential learning experiences to assist the student in understanding basic medication preparation and record keeping functions.

CompTIA (Computing Technology Industry Association) A+ Certification – The industry standard for establishing a career in IT, this program teaches you how to support today’s core technologies from security to cloud to data management and more.


Cybersecurity Certificate – Learn the foundational concepts and skills necessary to protect and defend information systems from attack and to limit access to network resources.


Networking Certificate – This certificate is designed to prepare students for entry-level information technology positions that require hands-on technical, computer, and networking skills to support home and small businesses.


Web Development Certificate – Students learn the fundamental skills to design, construct, and support web sites for small business applications.

Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – This program offers hands-on training and in-depth classroom instruction necessary to understand and master the daily requirements of a career in professional truck driving.


Supply and Logistics – Students gain skills needed in the areas of distribution, transportation operations, warehousing and materials, and inventory management.


Aviation Airframe Structure/Systems Certificate – This program introduces all airframe-related subjects to all aircraft maintenance technicians.


Automotive Repair – This program provides basic and advanced training in diagnostic and repair procedures for the major systems of today’s cars and light trucks.


ManuFirstSC (Manufacturing Technician) – A basic manufacturing certification for individuals needing entry-level eligibility for manufacturing employment. Covers the areas of manufacturing safety, quality awareness, production and processes, and maintenance awareness.


Basic Welding Certificate – This certificate provides graduates with the skill set to enter the workforce as an entry-level welder.


Lineman Technician – Learn to use the tools and equipment required for safe installation and repair of underground and overhead utilities through a combination of work in the classroom and field settings.


CNC Machine Operator – This program prepares an individual with the skills needed to operate computer numeric control (CNC) machines in manufacturing businesses.


Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Technician – This program prepares students for entry-level positions in the residential and light commercial heating and air conditioning field.


Basic Industrial Maintenance Certificate – The Basic Industrial Maintenance certificate prepares students for employment as entry level industrial maintenance technicians.

Paralegal Specialist Certificate – The Paralegal certificate prepares students to work under the direct supervision of an attorney to prepare legal documents, recommend solutions for procedural problems, and execute the practical performance of paralegal duties.


Fire Science Certificate – Designed for individuals pursuing training or employed in field of fire and rescue.


Criminal Justice Certificate – This program provides an overview of the criminal justice system in the United States and prepares students/graduates to work in private or public agencies.


Early Childhood Development Certificate – Gives students a basic understanding of the needs of young children and prepares them to implement quality pre-school programming.


Special Needs Certificate – This certificate provides pre-service and in-service early childhood teachers with the information and resources necessary for working with special needs children.

Culinary Arts – Food service industry competencies include safe food handling practices, sanitation, knife skills, equipment operation and safety, dining room operations and service, nutrition applications, and food preparation; entrees, baked goods, pastries, and buffet planning and organization.


Hospitality/Tourism Management – Understand the basic functions necessary to upgrade hospitality management skills and increase your opportunities for employment in the industry.


Event Management – Students will develop skills in all phases of event management from planning to delivery, sales and service.


Food Truck Operations – This program introduces students to the culinary operations and practice of Food Trucks to include business plan development, menu planning, and entrepreneurship for running a Food Truck business.
